The Harley-Davidson M8 engine is plagued with excessive oil consumption and blow-by. The Trask Performance CheckM8 vented transmission top cover fixes most of these issues by using a one-way Boyesen valve to bleed off excess crankcase pressure whilst keeping oil/air mist in the cam chest, allowing the oil pump to work more efficiently. This will reduce the oil exiting from the head breathers and free up engine power by allowing easier revving.

Note: The CheckM8 cannot fix the M8 oil transfer problem. Harley-Davidson has a pump seal service bulletin that addresses this problem.

The CheckM8 is an oil tank vent system that was designed to relieve excess pressure from the oil tank system. We would like to inform you of a potential issue and its solution. On 2019 and earlier M8 motorcycles, there is NO seal between the oil pump body and the crankcase, inside the cam chest. H-D incorporated the seal in late 2019*. This seal prevents pressure from the crankcase pushing into the cam chest through the pinion bearing. Please check with your dealer to see if your bike has had the replacement seal and backing-plate kit (HD#62400206) OR a new oil pump installed. If the seal kit OR new oil pump has NOT been installed in your M8 motorcycle, you may run the risk of pushing excessive amounts of oil out of the CheckM8 vent system.

NOTE: Newer aftermarket oil pumps such as ones from S&S and Fueling do have a provision for this seal; however, the seal is not included. Be sure that, before purchasing an aftermarket oil pump, it is clear the oil pump has the seal provision, as earlier aftermarket oil pumps do not include the seal provision.
